Could amniotic membrane ease bladder pain? new trial seeks answers
NCT ID NCT06096597
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether injecting a substance made from donated amniotic membrane into the bladder can reduce pain and urgency in women with interstitial cystitis (painful bladder syndrome). One hundred women who have not gotten better with other treatments will receive either the amniotic membrane injection or a placebo (salt water). The main goal is to see if symptoms improve significantly over time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
micronized amniotic membrane (Clarix Flo)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new treatment option for women with painful bladder syndrome who haven't improved with other therapies.
What could go wrong
This is an early combined phase 2/3 trial with only 100 participants, so results may not be conclusive. The treatment is injected directly into the bladder, which carries risks of infection or discomfort.
