New inhaled drug may shorten tough lung infection treatment

NCT ID NCT06585020

First seen Nov 19, 2025 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 34 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding an inhaled antibiotic (amikacin liposome suspension) to standard care helps clear M. xenopi bacteria from the lungs faster. About 190 adults with this rare, hard-to-treat lung infection will receive either standard treatment alone or standard treatment plus the inhaled drug. The goal is to see if the added drug leads to more negative sputum cultures and shorter treatment duration.
