Scientists develop way to watch brain inflammation cell by cell in Alzheimer's

NCT ID NCT05582200

First seen Apr 07, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study aims to improve how we see inflammation in the brains of people with Alzheimer's disease. Current scans can't tell which brain cells are inflamed, but this new method uses two different tracers and math to separately track microglia and astrocytes. Researchers will scan 71 volunteers with Alzheimer's and healthy older adults to test this approach. The goal is to create a tool that can better monitor new anti-inflammatory treatments for Alzheimer's.
