Rat study tests antioxidant for erection injury
NCT ID NCT07391709
First seen Feb 06, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This study looked at whether alpha lipoic acid, a natural antioxidant, can reduce tissue damage when blood flow returns after a prolonged, painful erection (priapism) in rats. Researchers divided 18 rats into groups and measured markers of oxidative stress and inflammation in the blood and penile tissue. The goal was to see if this antioxidant could protect against injury, but this is an early animal study, not a human treatment.
