Could a Heart-Healthy diet tame uncontrolled asthma?

NCT ID NCT05251402

First seen Jul 02, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026

Summary

This study investigates whether following the DASH diet—a heart-healthy eating plan—can improve quality of life for adults whose asthma is not well controlled by medication. Participants are randomly assigned to either a DASH-focused behavioral coaching program or standard asthma education. Researchers will track asthma symptoms, daily activities, and emotional well-being over 12 months to see if the diet makes a meaningful difference.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

DASH dietary pattern (behavioral intervention)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could provide a practical, safe dietary approach to help adults with uncontrolled asthma feel better and have fewer symptoms.

What could go wrong

This is a mid-stage trial, so results are not yet proven. The diet may not improve asthma control for everyone, and sticking to the program can be challenging.
