Albumin recovery time may forecast surgical outcomes
NCT ID NCT07263061
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tracks 1,000 patients undergoing major liver, pancreas, or bile duct surgery to see if the time it takes for their albumin levels to return to normal can predict complications and length of hospital stay. Albumin is a protein that drops after surgery due to inflammation. Researchers will measure how quickly it rises without extra albumin supplements. The goal is to find a simple, early marker of recovery. No new treatment is being tested.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors identify patients at higher risk of complications after major liver or pancreas surgery, allowing for earlier support.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It only looks for patterns, so it cannot prove cause and effect. Results may not apply to all surgery types or hospitals.
