AI-Powered smartphone photos could revolutionize wound care
NCT ID NCT07619430
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study will test an artificial intelligence system that analyzes smartphone photos of hard-to-heal wounds to see if they are getting better, staying the same, or getting worse. Researchers will enroll 1,000 people with wounds that have not healed for over a month. The goal is to create a low-cost, easy-to-use tool for patients and healthcare providers to monitor wound healing without special equipment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Marker-free wound image registration technology
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a simple, low-cost way for patients and doctors to track wound healing using just a smartphone camera.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study focused on developing and testing the technology, not on treating wounds. The system may not be accurate enough for real-world use.
