AI takes on cancer experts: who makes better treatment plans?
NCT ID NCT07595107
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study will compare treatment recommendations made by a large language model (AI) with those made by a team of cancer experts for 180 people with rectal cancer. The AI will analyze de-identified patient information and suggest a treatment plan. The goal is to see how often the AI's advice matches the experts' decisions. The AI's recommendations will not be used to treat patients.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that AI can help doctors make consistent treatment plans for rectal cancer, potentially improving decision-making.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early observational study at one hospital. The AI may not match expert recommendations, and results may not apply to other cancers or hospitals.
