AI chatbot to monitor pain after surgery: will it beat automated texts?
NCT ID NCT07510425
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether an AI-powered app can improve follow-up for patients recovering from surgery with a continuous nerve block for pain. 166 adults will use either the AI app or a standard automated messaging system. The goal is to see if the AI reduces the number of times patients need to contact their doctor, while keeping satisfaction high.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
AI-driven follow-up platform
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a more efficient and personalized way to monitor patients after surgery, reducing unnecessary calls to doctors while keeping patients safe and satisfied.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (166 participants) comparing two digital tools, not a new treatment. The AI may not reduce re-consultations as hoped, and results may not apply to all surgical patients.
