AI could help ultrasound spot ovarian cancer earlier

NCT ID NCT07660718

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is testing whether artificial intelligence can help ultrasound scans better detect ovarian cancer in postmenopausal women. About 100 women with certain types of ovarian cysts will have their ultrasound images analyzed by AI. The goal is to see if the AI can match or beat expert doctors at telling which cysts are cancerous, potentially leading to earlier diagnosis and fewer unnecessary surgeries.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
artificial intelligence software for ultrasound image analysis
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a more accurate, AI-assisted ultrasound method for detecting ovarian cancer earlier and reducing unnecessary surgeries.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to all women. The AI model is still being developed and may not outperform expert sonographers.
