AI trains future doctors to help smokers quit
NCT ID NCT07650721
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether artificial intelligence can improve how medical interns counsel patients to quit smoking. 140 interns will receive either standard training or AI-assisted case-based training. Their counseling skills will be measured before and after using the 5A model (Ask, Advise, Assess, Assist, Arrange). The goal is to see if AI feedback helps them learn more effectively.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Artificial intelligence-assisted interactive case-based training
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that AI training helps doctors give better smoking cessation advice, potentially improving quit rates.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with no patient outcomes—only skill scores. Results may not translate to real-world quitting success.
