AI could help nurses measure heart function as well as experts
NCT ID NCT06486467
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether ICU staff with minimal training can measure stroke volume (a key sign of blood flow) as accurately as expert doctors, using an AI-guided ultrasound tool. About 100 critically ill patients who need fluids will be enrolled. The goal is to see if AI can make this important measurement more accessible, potentially speeding up care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that AI can help less experienced staff make reliable measurements, potentially improving care in busy ICUs.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage reliability study, not a treatment trial. It only measures accuracy, not patient outcomes, so real-world benefits are uncertain.
