Can AI measure your Baby's size from a photo?
NCT ID NCT07514182
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether artificial intelligence can accurately estimate the length, weight, and head circumference of newborns and infants up to 6 months old using photos and videos. Researchers will compare AI estimates to standard measurements taken by healthcare professionals in hospital nurseries. The goal is to develop a simpler, less intrusive way to track infant growth.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a non-invasive, camera-based tool for monitoring infant growth in hospitals, reducing the need for physical measurements.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage observational study (60 infants) focused on algorithm development, not a treatment. The AI may not be accurate enough for clinical use, and results may not apply to all infants or settings.
