AI-Powered food app and smart glucose monitor could transform diabetes management

NCT ID NCT07533604

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Aug 14, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tests whether an AI app called SnapD, which recognizes Thai food and estimates nutrition, can help people with type 2 diabetes and overweight improve their blood sugar control. Some participants will also use a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) that tracks sugar levels in real time. Over 8 weeks, 45 adults will be randomly assigned to use the app with or without the CGM, or receive standard diabetes education alone. The goal is to see if these digital tools lead to better HbA1c levels and healthier habits.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
SnapD (AI-powered food analysis app) and Linx CGM (continuous glucose monitor)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a practical, culturally tailored digital tool to help people with type 2 diabetes better manage their blood sugar and weight.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 45 participants over 8 weeks, so results may not apply broadly. The app is new and untested, and participants must keep their diabetes medications unchanged, which limits real-world flexibility.
