AI face scan could spot hidden heart disease
NCT ID NCT07277686
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm can screen for coronary artery disease (CAD) by analyzing facial images. Researchers will enroll 1,392 high-risk adults (those with diabetes, high blood pressure, or over 65) and use the AI to classify them as high or low risk. All participants will then undergo a CT scan of the heart to see if the AI's predictions match actual CAD. The goal is to see if this simple, non-invasive method can improve early detection in community settings.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- AI facial analysis algorithm
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could provide a quick, non-invasive screening tool for coronary artery disease using just a facial photo.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage study focused on screening accuracy, not treatment. The AI may not perform well in real-world settings or diverse populations.
