AI boosts eye doctor accuracy in reading retina scans

NCT ID NCT07318428

First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tested whether an AI tool helps eye doctors diagnose four common eye diseases—diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion, and glaucoma—more accurately and quickly. Ten eye doctors at five hospitals read eye images with and without AI assistance. The goal was to see if AI improves diagnosis and saves time, not to treat the diseases.
