Summary

This study used non-invasive monitors to track heart rate, brain oxygen, and brain waves in 60 patients undergoing carotid surgery or stroke treatment. When surgeons temporarily clamped the carotid artery, the devices recorded the changes. The data will train artificial intelligence to recognize patterns of reduced blood flow to the brain. Blood samples were also taken to look for brain injury markers. The goal is to improve early detection of cerebral ischemia, not to treat it directly.
