Can AI and a new eye scanner make cataract surgery results more predictable?
NCT ID NCT07733154
First seen Jul 29, 2026 · Last updated Jul 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing a new, investigational eye scanner that uses light waves to measure the eye before cataract surgery. Researchers want to see if its measurements match those of a standard device, and whether an artificial intelligence model can better predict the correct lens power for each patient. The goal is to improve vision after surgery. About 2,500 adults with age-related cataracts will take part across multiple centers.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to more accurate lens power calculations for cataract surgery, potentially improving vision outcomes for millions of patients.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. The AI model is experimental and may not improve accuracy in real-world settings. Results are for research only.
