Heart monitoring study aims to catch hidden rhythm problems before they cause stroke

NCT ID NCT07343895

First seen Jan 17, 2026 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study looks at whether wearing a heart monitor for 7 days can help find hidden atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) in people with high levels of a heart stress marker called NT-proBNP. About 4,000 adults aged 40 and older who have never been diagnosed with AF or taken blood thinners will be split into two groups: one gets the monitor, the other does not. Researchers will track strokes and heart-related deaths over 6 years to see if early detection and treatment make a difference.
