First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a special antimicrobial dressing can reduce bloodstream infections from central venous catheters in children in intensive care. About 250 children will be randomly assigned to receive either the antimicrobial dressing or a standard one. The main goal is to see if the special dressing lowers infection rates.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Chlorhexidine gluconate-impregnated transparent dressing
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a simple way to lower the risk of serious bloodstream infections in children with central lines.
What could go wrong
This is a single-center trial with 250 participants, so results may not apply everywhere. The dressing could also cause skin irritation in some children.
