New daily adaptive radiotherapy aims to spare saliva glands in head and neck cancer patients
NCT ID NCT07348887
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase II trial tests whether daily adaptive radiotherapy (DART) can better protect the submandibular glands during head and neck cancer treatment compared to standard image-guided radiation. About 50 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either standard or adaptive therapy. The main goal is to see if DART helps maintain saliva production and reduces dry mouth side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
daily adaptive radiation therapy (DART)
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could reduce dry mouth and improve quality of life for head and neck cancer patients undergoing radiation.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 50 participants. The technique may not significantly improve saliva production or could have unforeseen side effects.
