Needles vs. nerve pain: ancient practice tested for modern HIV suffering

NCT ID NCT03855111

Summary

This study tested whether acupuncture, a traditional needle-based therapy, could help reduce severe foot and leg pain caused by nerve damage in people living with HIV. Nearly 200 participants were randomly assigned to receive either real acupuncture, a fake version, or no treatment to see which worked best. The goal was to find a new way to ease this chronic pain and improve quality of life, as standard pain medications are often not effective for this condition.
