Lung spot watch: new study tracks hazy lesions to predict cancer risk
NCT ID NCT03802981
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study follows 338 people who have two or more ground glass opacities (GGOs) in their lungs—small, hazy spots seen on CT scans. Instead of treating them right away, doctors will monitor them over time to learn more about how these spots behave and whether they lead to lung cancer. The goal is to gather information that could help guide future care for people with similar findings.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help doctors better understand which GGOs are dangerous and which are safe to watch, potentially reducing unnecessary treatments.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational registry, not a treatment trial. It may not provide clear answers about how to manage GGOs, and results may take years to emerge.
