Why some knees freeze after ACL surgery: scientists probe muscle inhibition
NCT ID NCT07659561
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at why some people have trouble activating their quadriceps (front thigh muscle) after ACL surgery, a condition called arthrogenic motor inhibition (AMI). Researchers will use surface electrodes to measure muscle activity in both legs of 40 patients who had ACL surgery at least 3 weeks ago. By comparing those with and without AMI, they hope to better understand this barrier to recovery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help doctors better diagnose and treat muscle inhibition after ACL surgery, potentially improving rehabilitation outcomes.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage observational study with only 40 participants. It measures electrical activity, not clinical recovery, so results may not directly change treatment.
