Early bone drug study for ACL injuries halted after just 4 people

NCT ID NCT05204836

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This small, early-stage study tested whether a single injection of zoledronic acid (a bone-strengthening drug) could change bone structure after an ACL tear and possibly prevent future knee arthritis. Only 4 people with a recent ACL tear took part. The study was stopped early, so we don't have clear answers on whether the treatment works.
