New study tests best treatment for irregular heartbeat in people 78 and older

Summary
This study looks at two common treatments for atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) in people aged 78 and older. One treatment is a procedure called catheter ablation, which targets the heart's faulty electrical signals. The other is medication to control heart rate or rhythm. Researchers want to see which approach leads to fewer serious health events and better quality of life over two years. About 282 participants will wear a small heart monitor to track their heart rhythm throughout the study.
