New strategy aims to keep breast cancer patients on Full-Dose targeted therapy

NCT ID NCT06169371

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether slowly increasing the dose of the drug abemaciclib over three weeks helps patients with early-stage HR+HER2- breast cancer stay on the full approved dose. About 50 participants will receive the drug alongside hormone therapy. The main goal is to see if more patients can tolerate the full dose after 84 days, while tracking side effects like diarrhea.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Abemaciclib (a targeted cancer drug taken as pills)

What this could lead to

If successful, this approach could help more patients tolerate the full dose of abemaciclib, potentially improving cancer control and reducing recurrence risk.

What could go wrong

This is a small, single-arm phase 4 trial with only 50 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Side effects like diarrhea are common and could still limit dose escalation.
