Engineered immune cells take aim at stubborn childhood cancers
NCT ID NCT02992210
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests a new treatment using a patient's own immune cells, modified to recognize and attack a protein called GD2 found on many solid tumors. The trial includes 100 people aged 1 to 65 with tumors that have not responded to standard therapy. The goal is to see if these modified cells are safe and can shrink tumors.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
4SCAR-GD2 CAR T cells (genetically modified immune cells targeting GD2)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a new treatment option for patients with hard-to-treat solid tumors that express GD2.
What could go wrong
This is an early-phase trial (Phase 1/2) with only 100 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Side effects from the modified cells are possible and are being closely monitored.
