New 3D ultrasound could reveal hidden stroke risk
NCT ID NCT07298655
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new 3D ultrasound probe to see tiny blood vessels inside fatty plaques in the neck arteries. These vessels can make plaques more likely to rupture and cause a stroke. Ten people who already had a standard ultrasound will get this new 3D scan with a contrast dye to see if it gives a clearer picture of the whole plaque.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
SonoVue microbubble contrast agent
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a safer, more accurate way to identify dangerous plaques in neck arteries, helping prevent strokes.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early study (10 people) testing a new imaging technique. It may not prove better than current methods, and results may not apply to everyone.
