Custom 3D-Printed breast prostheses aim to improve life after mastectomy
NCT ID NCT07047872
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether custom 3D-printed external breast prostheses improve comfort, fit, and emotional well-being for women who have had a mastectomy without reconstruction. Fifty participants will receive a personalized prosthesis made from 3D scans of their chest. The goal is to see if this tailored approach leads to higher satisfaction than traditional off-the-shelf prostheses.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
3D-printed external breast prosthesis
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a more comfortable and better-fitting breast prosthesis option for women who choose not to have breast reconstruction after mastectomy.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The 3D-printed prostheses may not prove significantly better than traditional ones.
