NCT ID NCT07198009
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study tests whether a natural supplement called 2-HOBA can reduce harmful oxidized fats in people with high lipoprotein(a), a genetic risk factor for heart disease. Ten adults with elevated Lp(a) will take 2-HOBA capsules for 6 weeks. Researchers will measure changes in blood markers of oxidation, inflammation, and clotting.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple supplement to lower heart disease risk in people with high lipoprotein(a).
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early pilot study with only 10 participants and no placebo group, so results may not be conclusive or generalizable.
