New imaging tracer could reveal if chemo reaches pancreatic cancer

NCT ID NCT05141643

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This early-phase trial at Memorial Sloan Kettering is testing whether a special PET scan using an experimental tracer called 18F-FAC can show how much of the standard chemotherapy drug gemcitabine is taken up by pancreatic tumors. About 30 people with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma will receive the tracer before starting treatment, and some may have a second scan during therapy. The goal is to see if this imaging method can help predict treatment response and guide personalized care.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

18F-FAC (an experimental imaging tracer)

What this could lead to

If successful, this imaging method could help doctors see which patients are likely to benefit from gemcitabine chemotherapy before starting treatment.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small study (30 people) focused on imaging, not treatment. The tracer may not reliably predict drug uptake, and results may not change patient outcomes.
