Twin to twin transfusion syndrome
MONDO:0019805Twin twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) is a rare condition seen in twin monochorionic pregnancies, typically developing during the 15-26 week gestation period and usually due to unbalanced intertwin placental anastomoses, where an unequal exchange of blood between twins causes oligohydramnios in one sac and polyhydramnios in the other which can lead to a high perinatal mortality rate and a high rate of disability in survivors if left untreated
Also known as: Feto-fetal transfusion syndrome, Twin Anemia Polycythemia Sequence, Twin-Twin transfusion syndrome, foetal blood loss from foetal haemorrhage into co-twin, foetal haemorrhage into co-twin, placental transfusion syndrome, stuck Twin syndrome, twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome

Simple cord milking procedure could protect newborn brains after difficult births
Disease control OngoingThis trial tests whether a quick procedure called umbilical cord milking—pushing blood from the cord into the baby before clamping—can improve brain development in newborns who are limp or not breathing well at birth. The study follows over 3,400 infants from the earlier CORDMILK…

Twin pregnancy data hunt aims to save lives
Knowledge-focused OngoingThis study gathers information from 1,200 pregnant people carrying twins that share a placenta (monochorionic twins). Researchers track complications like preterm birth and infant death to better understand these high-risk pregnancies. No new treatments are tested; the goal is to…

Twin pregnancy laser tool study halted before it began
Knowledge-focused TerminatedThis study aimed to check if special fetoscopes are safe and work well for laser surgery in twin pregnancies with complications. The study was withdrawn before any participants were enrolled, so no results are available. It would have looked for device problems and side effects.

Cord milking may save newborn brains: major trial underway
Knowledge-focused OngoingThis study looks at over 3,400 newborns who are not vigorous at birth (between 35 and 42 weeks). Doctors want to see if milking the umbilical cord (pushing blood into the baby) before clamping it leads to fewer cases of brain injury or death compared to clamping the cord right aw…
