Intracranial hypotension
MONDO:0006811Reduction of cerebrospinal fluid pressure characterized clinically by headache which is maximal in an upright posture and occasionally by an abducens nerve palsy (see abducens nerve diseases), neck stiffness, hearing loss (see deafness); nausea; and other symptoms. This condition may be spontaneous or secondary to spinal puncture; neurosurgical procedures; dehydration; uremia; trauma (see also craniocerebral trauma); and other processes. Chronic hypotension may be associated with subdural hematomas (see hematoma, subdural) or hygromas. (From Semin Neurol 1996 Mar;16(1):5-10; Adams et al., Principles of Neurology, 6th ed, pp637-8)

Blood patch showdown: could Platelet-Rich plasma beat whole blood for rare headache condition?
Disease control Not yet recruitingThis study tests whether a patch made from a patient's own platelet-rich plasma works better than a standard whole blood patch for treating spontaneous intracranial hypotension, a condition causing severe headaches from spinal fluid leaks. About 218 adults who haven't improved wi…

Magnesium may stop Post-Spinal headaches in new moms
Symptom relief Not yet recruitingThis study will review the medical records of 300 women who had a planned C-section under spinal anesthesia. Researchers want to see if those who received magnesium had fewer headaches afterward. The goal is to find a simple way to prevent this common side effect.

Spinal needle showdown: which approach spares patients the headache?
Symptom relief Not yet recruitingThis study compares two methods of giving spinal anesthesia—the median (midline) and paramedian (lateral) approaches—to see which one leads to fewer post-dural puncture headaches. About 142 adults having elective orthopedic or urology surgery will take part. The goal is to find a…

Simple bedside tests may predict dangerous blood pressure drops during C-Sections
Knowledge-focused Not yet recruitingThis study will check if measuring the jugular vein in the neck with ultrasound and using a standard pulse oximeter on the finger can predict which women will have a dangerous drop in blood pressure after receiving spinal anesthesia for a planned C-section. About 110 women having…

Eye scan may spot headache risk after C-Section spinal
Knowledge-focused Not yet recruitingThis study looks at whether a simple, non-invasive eye ultrasound can predict which women will get a headache after spinal anesthesia during a C-section. Researchers will measure the optic nerve sheath diameter in 220 women at several times before and after surgery. They will the…

Eye scan may predict spinal headache risk in new moms
Knowledge-focused Not yet recruitingThis study looks at whether a quick, painless eye ultrasound can predict which women will get a headache after spinal anesthesia for C-section. Researchers will measure the optic nerve sheath diameter before and after the spinal block in 150 women. The goal is to find a cutoff va…
