Combined oxidative phosphorylation defect type 15
MONDO:0013987Combined oxidative phosphorylation defect type 15 is a rare mitochondrial disease due to a defect in mitochondrial protein synthesis characterized by onset in infancy or early childhood of muscular hypotonia, gait ataxia, mild bilateral pyramidal tract signs, developmental delay (affecting mostly speech and coordination) and subsequent intellectual disability. Short stature, obesity, microcephaly, strabismus, nystagmus, reduced visual acuity, lactic acidosis, and a brain neuropathology consistent with Leigh syndrome are also reported.
Also known as: COXPD15, MTFMT combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency, combined oxidative phosphorylation defect type 15, combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency caused by mutation in MTFMT, combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency type 15, combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency 15

New drug shows promise for rare energy disorder
Disease control CompletedThis study tested a new drug called OMT-28 in 28 people with primary mitochondrial disease, a condition that affects how cells produce energy. Participants took the drug once daily for 6 months, and researchers measured safety, blood markers of inflammation, and symptoms like fat…

Long-Term safety of mitochondrial drug confirmed in 101 patients
Disease control CompletedThis study looked at the safety of vatiquinone in 101 people with inherited mitochondrial disease who had already taken the drug in a previous study or treatment plan. The goal was to track any side effects until the drug became commercially available or the program ended. Partic…
