Sugar alcohol rinse could ease sinus misery for cystic fibrosis patients
NCT ID NCT05531630
First seen May 05, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study tests whether rinsing the nose with a solution containing xylitol (a natural sugar alcohol) can reduce sinus symptoms in adults with cystic fibrosis who also have chronic sinusitis. About 38 participants will try both xylitol rinses and standard saltwater rinses at different times to compare results. The goal is to see if xylitol provides better relief for symptoms like nasal congestion, facial pain, and reduced sense of smell.
