First seen Dec 08, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 22 times
Summary
This study tested a new way to prevent dengue fever and similar viruses. Researchers released mosquitoes infected with Wolbachia bacteria into certain neighborhoods in Brazil. These "good" mosquitoes are less able to spread viruses. Over 5,700 children aged 6-11 took part, and the study compared infection rates in areas with and without the Wolbachia mosquitoes. The goal was to see if this method could reduce the number of new infections.
