Friendly mosquitoes slash dengue risk in major brazilian trial
NCT ID NCT04514107
First seen Dec 08, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study tested a clever way to prevent dengue fever: releasing mosquitoes infected with Wolbachia bacteria into neighborhoods. These special mosquitoes make it harder for viruses like dengue to spread. Over 5,700 children in Brazil took part, and the approach was added to standard mosquito control. The goal was to see if this method could lower the number of new infections.
