Weight loss surgery tested in seniors to fight diabetes, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea
NCT ID NCT07437716
Summary
This study tested whether weight loss surgery (laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy) works better than standard medical care for adults aged 65 and older who have severe obesity along with health problems like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, or knee arthritis. Sixty participants chose either to have the surgery or to receive diet counseling and medications, and researchers tracked their health changes over one year. The goal was to see if surgery leads to better improvement in these obesity-related conditions compared to non-surgical approaches.
