Summary
This study tested a phone-based counseling program for veterans with chronic pain who were at risk for substance misuse. Over 1,100 veterans from New England took part. The program aimed to reduce pain and risky substance use by helping them access better pain treatment. Results focused on pain levels and number of problem substances.
