Could a common heart pill save insulin-making cells in kids with diabetes?
NCT ID NCT07199946
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 31 times
Summary
This study tests whether verapamil, a drug used for high blood pressure, can help children aged 4 to 10 with recent-onset type 1 diabetes preserve their remaining insulin production. The trial has two parts: first, a small safety check, then a larger blinded comparison with placebo. If successful, it could slow the disease and reduce the amount of insulin needed, but it is not a cure.
