NCT ID NCT07199946

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 06, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study tests whether verapamil, a drug already used for high blood pressure, can help children aged 4 to 10 with recent-onset type 1 diabetes preserve their own insulin production. The trial involves 36 children, first checking safety in 6 kids, then randomly assigning 30 to receive verapamil or a placebo for 12 months. The goal is to see if the drug can slow the loss of beta cells, reducing the need for injected insulin and improving blood sugar control.
