Eye scan could spot hidden nerve pain in dry eye sufferers
NCT ID NCT05653921
First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study aims to see if a special microscope scan (called IVCM) can reliably detect tiny nerve growths (microneuromas) that cause neuropathic corneal pain—a severe type of dry eye. Researchers will scan the eyes of 438 adults with dry eye symptoms to confirm whether these nerve findings are consistent over time. The goal is to establish a clear, non-invasive way to diagnose this painful condition.
