Could a breath test replace painful muscle biopsies?

NCT ID NCT07317921

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study checks if a non-invasive breath test can measure how well protein builds muscle as accurately as the current gold-standard method, which requires muscle biopsies. Eight healthy adults aged 18-35 will consume a special tracer and provide breath, urine, and blood samples along with two small muscle biopsies. If successful, this technique could make future muscle and nutrition research much easier for volunteers.
