Pee test may spot hidden thyroid cancer, spare patients unnecessary surgery
NCT ID NCT05463107
First seen Apr 14, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study looks at whether proteins found in urine can help doctors tell if a thyroid growth is cancerous before surgery. Currently, the only way to diagnose follicular thyroid cancer is to remove the nodule and examine it under a microscope. Researchers are testing urine samples from 50 people with thyroid nodules to see if certain protein markers can accurately predict cancer, which could lead to a simple, non-invasive test.
