Can a simpler, cheaper method for marking breast tumors work as well as ultrasound?
NCT ID NCT07716644
First seen Jul 21, 2026 · Last updated Jul 22, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether placing a small marker clip into a breast tumor without ultrasound guidance (using touch alone) is as accurate, safe, and cost-effective as using ultrasound. The study involves 50 women with palpable breast tumors who will receive neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The goal is to find a viable, lower-cost option for breast cancer care in low-resource settings.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- breast lesion clip placement (procedure)
- What this could lead to
- If blind clipping proves accurate and cost-effective, it could offer a practical alternative for breast cancer care in low-resource settings.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, single-center trial, so results may not apply broadly. Blind clipping may be less accurate than ultrasound guidance.
