Ultrasound uncovers hidden insulin lumps that mess with blood sugar

NCT ID NCT06782568

First seen Feb 15, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study looks at whether using ultrasound to find fatty lumps (called lipohypertrophy) caused by insulin injections can help people with diabetes better control their blood sugar. About 50 adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes who use insulin and a continuous glucose monitor will get an ultrasound scan of their injection sites. If lumps are found, participants will be taught to avoid those spots. Their glucose levels will be tracked for 24 weeks to see if avoiding the lumps improves time in target range.
