Simple ultrasound could prevent rare anesthesia deaths in kids
NCT ID NCT06079268
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 32 times
Summary
This study tested whether a simple, non-invasive ultrasound can accurately detect when a child's stomach contains too much fluid, which can be dangerous during anesthesia. Researchers gave 92 healthy children different amounts of clear liquid to drink, then used ultrasound to check their stomachs. The goal was to see if the ultrasound could reliably identify a fluid volume of 1.25 ml/kg or more, which is considered a risk for aspiration.
