Ultrasound boosts IV success in kids with tricky veins

NCT ID NCT06465121

First seen Feb 24, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looks at whether using ultrasound can help nurses place IVs more successfully in children whose veins are hard to see or feel. About 120 children aged 1 month to 18 years with difficult veins will be randomly assigned to get an IV placed either the usual way (by feeling the vein) or with ultrasound guidance. The goal is to see if ultrasound leads to more first-attempt successes and less pain.
