Ultrasound-guided IVs may spare kids multiple needle sticks

NCT ID NCT06465121

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether having specially trained nurses use ultrasound can improve the success rate of placing an IV on the first try in children with difficult veins. About 120 children aged 1 month to 18 years will be randomly assigned to get an IV placed either by the usual method (feeling for the vein) or with ultrasound guidance. The goal is to reduce failed attempts, pain, and complications.
